About the Song

My Life came from a place inside of me that took most of my lifetime to reach—the realization that I am the only person actually living this life.

At the end of it, I’ll either look back and be proud of the way I spent my time, or I’ll wish I had made different choices. Once I saw it from that perspective, a lot of the excuses I had relied on before simply stopped mattering.

That doesn’t mean chasing one particular definition of success. It means giving myself permission to live according to what genuinely matters to me.

Sometimes that means writing books. Sometimes it means writing and singing songs. Sometimes it means sitting beneath a shade tree in my yard and doing absolutely nothing except enjoying where I am.

It also means continuing to pursue music regardless of what someone else thinks I should—or shouldn’t—be doing at this point in my life.

I’ll say no when I know no is the right answer. I’ll say yes when something feels right. I’m no longer interested in allowing other people’s expectations, opinions or ideas about age to determine what I do with the time that belongs to me.

If it brings me joy, gives my life meaning, or makes me glad I showed up for another day, I’m doing it.

Because in the end, it’s my life.

Song Details

The Making of My Life

The lyrics and vocal melody for My Life were written and recorded on June 7, 2026.

Production work moved into Logic Pro later that month, with Hammond organ added using IK Multimedia’s Hammond instrument. Vocals were recorded July 1, followed by mixing and mastering.

The finished track developed into a driving Southern blues-rock song with Southern soul and country-rock influences, carrying the same determination, independence and forward momentum found in the lyric.
