About the Song
“Hit Or Miss” turns the uncertainty of falling in love into a fast-moving game of baseball. Sometimes love sends you sliding safely into home. Sometimes it leaves you striking out alone. Either way, you still have to step up to the plate and take your swing.
Built around a lively 158 BPM groove, the song blends country, country rock and country pop with electric guitar, bass, acoustic drums, harmonica, percussion, crowd ambience and a ballpark-style announcer.
Written, performed and produced by Misti Flowers, the recording brings together an international group of human session musicians to create a playful, energetic song about taking chances, even when there are no guarantees.
A Special Tribute to the Honorable James Croy
The Voice Behind the Ballpark Announcer
Jim is my “bonus dad” and the closest example I have ever known of a truly honorable man. For nearly 30 years, he has been a father figure to me and my single greatest supporter—not only in music, but in life overall.
A musician himself and a particular lover of folk music, Jim has offered me immeasurable encouragement through the years. His support became especially meaningful when I began writing the songs for Right Where I Belong.
When it came time to record the ballpark announcer soundbites for “Hit Or Miss,” I could think of no voice I would rather include. I asked Jim if he would like to do the honors.
